An Eventful Evening

Well, the night continued from the train to the Great Hall. I sat down with the rest of my usual Ravenclaw friends, and watched the sorting. I was sad to see Ginny sorted into Gryffindor, but I could tell she was happy. And really that’s all that mattered! As she walked towards her table she gave me a big smile, and I knew that we would still hang out together. No house would come in the way of our newly made friendship!

But, luckily Luna was sorted into Ravenclaw! She sat down at the table next to me, and we laughed and talked all night. I could tell that Micheal, Terry,  and Anthony thought Luna was a freak. They were really judgmental. But luckily Padma was nice to her so maybe she’ll sit with us again. And if she doesn’t, then I will sit with her by myself, because I love Luna! I never laughed so hard before!. She is crazy, and so honest! I cracks me up!

Also the whole night, I felt Anthony (who was sitting on the other side of me) move closer and closer to me. It was extremely uncomfortable! And he laughed at everything I said! EVERYTHING, I said. It was so annoying.

But the Welcome Feast ended and we all trudged back up to our common rooms. It felt so right to be back in my dormitory. It felt like home! I settled into my blue bed by the window (next to Padma) and began unpacking my trunk.

Place my wand on the bedside table…put my photo album nest to my wand….arrange my textbooks on the other bedside table…lay out my clothes for tomorrow….

“Shayla!”

I turned around at the voice I knew was Cho’s. She was standing in the doorway wearing a sparkling silver tank top, that showed off her thin arms and waist. Her hair was perfectly straight and black, hanging down her face. How was it that she looked so pretty this late at night? I’m sitting here wearing my pjs and she is standing there looking like a model!

Her face wore a smile as she walked in and gave me a hug. “I haven’t seen you all summer! Sorry I didn’t sit with you at the feast! I was with Marietta Edgecombe, and her friends. Have you ever met her? She is soo nice! And her friends are so funny and cool! But sorry I didn’t sit with you and the gang! I will tomorrow I promise.”

I laughed at how dramatic Cho always was. “Cho, it’s fine! You can sit with whom ever you want!”

She smiled, pleased that i wasn’t upset. “Ok cool! But you, me, and Padma totally need to catch up! Where is she anyway?”

Just then Padma came walking in, and was also attacked by Cho trying to give her a hug. Both girls giggled at the silliness of everything and plopped down on Padma’s bed.

“Ok, girls. So what’s new?” Cho looked at both of us, waiting for an answer. “Come on, there has to be something! Fine I’ll go first! So you know that guy Cedric Diggory? Well he is soo hot, and perfect. I am going to marry him one day! I seriously will! Marietta says that he is totally perfect for me! She is soo sweet! You guys should sit with me and her friends tomorrow. They are soo nice and pretty too! It’s like a clan of pretty girls!”

“Cho you would fit in perfectly there,” said Padma.

At this Cho flipped her hair behind her back and smiled. “Come on, guys you are really pretty too! And I’m not that hot myself. Look at Shayla, she has all the boys chasing after her.!”

“Yeah right. I definitely think Malfoy is running after me. To what throw dirt in my face?”

“Shayla what are you talking about?” Padma asked with a concerned look on her face. I could always tell when she was worried for her face had that, oh-my-god expression on it.

So, like any girl would, I told them everything thing that happened this morning. And in their eyes it was a big deal, and in my eyes it was just another reason to hate Malfoy.

“Well who cares about stupid Malfoy! I meant, though, that Anthony likes you! Did you see the way he got really close to you at lunch! Love!!!” Cho said with a huge smile on her face.

Padma burst out laughing, at the thought that this was good news. And don’t take this the wrong way or anything, but Anthony is not a catch. He was my friend and all, but eww!

“Right Cho, that really brightened my day.”

“Come on, Shayla. Lighten up! Anyway I got to get to bed. See you guys at breakfast! Bye!” And with that, Cho left the room smiling and flipping her hair behind her.

“Do you really think Anthony likes me?”

“Well, yeah. I didn’t want to say anything at dinner, but it was really noticeable!” I noticed how Padma’s face had that look where she was trying not to smile.

“You really think it’s funny, don’t you?”

“Me?” Padma said pointing to herself, in mock dumbness. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, Shayla?”

She climbed into bed, and I turned out the light and I could hear her laughter muffled by her pillow. Ugg why me?

As I lay in bed, though, the last thought in my mind was Anthony. Instead my thoughts drifted to Malfoy.

All Aboard the Hogwarts Express

Second Year came around, and I was so excited! On September 1st I went to Platinum Nine and 3/4, to board the train. When I was loading my trunk, I noticed another girl rushing to the train. She had red hair, and freckles. I figured she was a first year by the way she looked so lost. So I did what any nice person would: I asked her if she needed help.

“Hey, do you need help? You seem a little lost.”

She smiled up at me, thanking me for being so nice. I helped her load her trunk into the train. “Hey if you want I can sit with you. Unless you have other friends you want to sit with.”

“Hahaha! Right like a first year would already be super popular. I’m Ginny Weasley, by the way!” She smiled a big grin up at me and I couldn’t help but laugh. The shy little girl was gone, replaced with a bubble girl. “I’m Shayla”.

I began lifting my trunk into the train, when I felt someone’s eyes on me. You know that feeling you get when someone is watching you? Yeah well that’s what I felt. I turned around the see Malfoy staring at me. And the funny thing was is that it wasn’t a look of disgust. But then he seemed to snap out of it or something, because he smirked and said, “What are you looking at, Ravenclaw”

He strutted towards the train accidently knocking my trunk from my hands. Ginny looked at his back in disgust. “Stupid Malfoy”. She then helped me get my trunk into the train, so we could find a compartment together.

Of course all of the compartments were full at this point, so we took one that had only one lonely first year in it. She smiled at us and was friendly. Her name was Luna Lovegood. It’s funny; I made two friends that day, but I also made a very good enemy: Malfoy.
